Elizabeth Evans, Sales Manager at Cyclomedia

Hello there,

As 2024 is drawing to a close, we are now all well aware that cities need to prepare for the future of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), which is coming faster than many expected. The Automated Vehicles Act, driven by the Department for Transport (DfT), aims to accelerate this transformation, ensuring that TROs are digitised to create smarter urban infrastructure and let autonomous vehicles safely navigate and park in our cities very soon.

There is a concern that some local authorities are nowhere near where they need to be in this process, and there’s still a surprisingly relaxed approach from some of those that we speak to, and, depending on how complex the administrative and approval processes in your organisation are, this process might take a lot longer than you think.

Digitising TROs isn't just a technical upgrade; it's essential to making roads safer and cities more efficient. Connected vehicles rely on real-time, accurate data to navigate streets, and outdated or inaccurate TRO information could hinder their effectiveness, potentially compromising safety. The DfT is driving this initiative to standardise traffic management across the UK, paving the way for a fully integrated transport system. A digitised network of traffic regulations will enable seamless communication between vehicles and infrastructure, leading to fewer accidents, reduced congestion, and more efficient use of road space.

For those uncertain about where to begin with the D-TRO transition, connect with council colleagues who have already started, read up on practical resources - like AppyWay’s free eBook included in this newsletter, or feel free to reach out to me for further insights on why Cyclomedia are the first strep in your D-TRO journey.

At Cyclomedia, we support this transition by providing advanced 3D digital twin solutions for local authorities. Our expertise in geospatial data collection, combined with a fleet of over 80 specialised survey vehicles, allows us to capture precise, up-to-date data on road networks at scale. By utilising our Street Smart platform, local authorities can visualise street-level assets in 3D, reducing the need for physical site visits and enabling more informed decision-making across departments, prioritising safety, sustainability and efficiency. For more information on how Cyclomedia and our collaboration with traffic management platform providers such as AppyWay, can streamline TRO digitisation, please get in touch, and explore how our 3D digital twin technology brings unmatched efficiency to local authority workflows.
