Feature releases - appyway

Welcome to your latest release note!

Over the past three months, our team has been hard at work delivering a suite of improvements and new functionalities. Here’s what’s new:

Projects

TfL Bay Availability Pilot: We’ve partnered with Transport for London (TfL) to create a new platform for monitoring bay availability in red route bays using AppyWay parking sensors. This pilot could extend to monitoring other bay types like loading or EV bays, similar to projects we’ve delivered in Coventry and Dundee.

Kerb BI Enhancements: We've introduced new data views to Kerb BI, offering detailed breakdowns of orders by regulation mode, state changes, and restriction updates. With easy filtering by restriction and date, you can now track changes over time with greater insight. This module is an optional add-on to the standard Traffic Suite package—reach out to our customer success team to explore how adopting it could enhance your operations.

New features:

Car Park Orders: Customers using the off-street module, can now create map-based orders for car parks. This complements the existing functionality of uploading documents directly to the car park if you prefer to manage these in a text-based format.

Capitalisation of Road Names: Mapper now automatically capitalises all road names when importing data. We've also updated all existing road names across customer authorities to ensure consistency.

Copy Feature ID and Zoom: We've added a new functionality to the audit table, allowing you to copy feature IDs and zoom directly to specific entries on the map. This enhancement simplifies the process of locating and reviewing changes.

Event Day Operating Hours for Moving Features: You can now define operating hours for moving order features on event days, providing greater flexibility in managing temporary traffic restrictions.

Loading Time Enhancements: We’ve made substantial backend optimizations to significantly speed up data processing in Mapper. When you first open active restrictions, data now loads 82.8% faster—based on testing with an authority that has a high concentration of data. When modifying restrictions, such as editing zone geometry, Mapper processes changes up to 50% faster, using the same test authority as a benchmark. This means less time waiting and more time accessing the data you need.

Map Schedule Improvements: We've made several enhancements for better clarity and usability. Headings are now bolder, the scale bar is updated, the north arrow has been relocated, guide page language is improved, and dates are displayed on a single line for easier reading.

Multiple Selection for Consultation Feedback: Public consultation participants can now select multiple reasons for their feedback instead of being limited to just one, allowing for more comprehensive responses.

New Restrictions:  You can now manage these restrictions in Mapper:

  • No articulated vehicles

  • Restricted speed limits (by virtue of street lighting). These can now be added as linear or zone-based restrictions.

  • No U-turns over a distance (previously only allowed for specific areas)

Public Consultation Updates: The public consultation module has been updated with a larger feedback button and refreshed link colours, improving the user interface and accessibility.

Route Tooling Enhancements: You can now define cycle, pedestrian, horse, horse-drawn vehicle routes, or a combination of these, as well as Greenways within moving orders.

Speed Limit Colour Updates: Based on user feedback, we've updated the colours of the 40MPH and 50MPH speed limits to make them more visually distinct on the map for easier identification.

Specified Customisation Tab: In the Authority Settings window, customisation options are now located under a dedicated tab, making it easier to manage data display settings for Public Consultation, map schedules, and Streets.

Terminal IDs: Authorities can now add parking machine terminal IDs to features, alongside cashless parking codes. A prompt will also appear to remind users to add these details when progressing orders if enabled in authority settings.

Upcoming Events

Our next user group will take place in person on Wednesday, 6th November, in Sheffield. This is our first session outside of London, making it more accessible for our Northern colleagues to join.

These user groups are a fantastic opportunity to connect with other local authorities, share best practices, and discuss any concerns or suggestions you may have regarding Traffic Suite. If you haven’t signed up yet and would like to participate, please email me or Mike Potter, and we’ll send you all the necessary details.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we hope these improvements enhance your experience with our services. If you have any further suggestions or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Kind regards

Samuel Kinrade
